Historic Preservation efforts within the City of Wausau are lead by the Historic Preservation Commission. The purpose of the Commission is to carry out the directives of the Historic Preservation Plan. The Commission is an advocate and safeguard for historic and prehistoric sites, cultural heritage and the aesthetic character of the City. We continue to proactively educate the community on Wausau's heritage and work with the public and private sector as a resource.
Meetings of the Historic Preservation Commission are held on the fourth Wednesday of every month at 4:00 p.m. Please check the City of Wausau Calendar to verify meeting time and location.
The Commission is comprised of nine members with the Building Inspector and City Planner as ex officio members. Of the members, one shall be an architect or architectural designer, one shall be a historian, one shall be an alderperson and six shall be citizen members. The Mayor appoints commissioners subject to confirmation by the Common Council.
